Inbound Stockholm/Arlanda via intersection ELTOK with is a GPS location north east of Västerås and one of the standard arrival points into Arlanda. Lake Mälaren straight ahead. Eskilstuna can be seen – well, as much as you can see on a slightly hazy day from 23 000 feet- on the right hand side.

Descending over a cloudy England with the wonderful, but a bit aged now, Level-D Boeing 767-300. Departed Newark, NJ late afternoon local time and climbed into the dusk and approaching night, to arrive over the British Isles early morning the next day. Destination London Stansted.

Leaving Jamaica by turbine DC-3

2013-3-20_9-23-31-709

Crossing the Mexican Gulf on leg 224 out of 300 on the present world tour. Next stop is Nueva Gerona on Cuba. Today flying one of the modern modified versions of the venerable Douglas DC-3. This is a Basler BT-67 which basically is a DC-3 airframe fitted with modern turboprop engines, modified wing and fuselage, modern avionics and some other stuff.

Beginning to see the end of the world tour. A few more flights around the Mexican Gulf and then back into the US again in Texas. Then north along the US East coast, via Canada, Greenland to Iceland and then all the way across Greenland, Canada, Alaska, and Russia to Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea and finally back to London City airport. Expecting to arrive in London in June. Very long tour flying at 200-300 knots started in early October last year.

Merry Christmas!

On final approach for Hemavan in Sweden in the late afternoon. I was wondering what the weather would be like. The reports indicated low clouds with substantial tail wind on the ILS approach, so I had mentally prepared for starting down the ILS and then breaking off once below the clouds to circle for a visual approach from the other end. Visibility seemed sufficient without being great. All those mountains nearby make it more interesting too.

And then the clouds cleared and I landed in beautiful afternoon sunlight instead.

The Cadillac of the Skies

Hardly comfortable and convenient, but the North American P-51D Mustang in civilian form must be one of the fastest means for travelling in style. It has become my favourite airplane for the Virtual Pilots Association VFR World Tour. Currently about to leave India enroute for Chittagong in Bangladesh. Only 220 legs out of 300 remain…

Lonely and dark up here

Passing north of Novaya Zemlya in the Polar night on a flight from Tiksi, Siberia to Murmansk with the MD-11 for my favourite cargo virtual airline. Lonely part of the flight sim planet without much other traffic. Next stop will be a bit more crowded. The cargo hub at Cologne/Bonn before continuing back across Asia home to Anchorage, Alaska.
